Dancers and cheerleaders are no longer relegated to the sidelines and halftime shows. Once considered little more than pep squads for sports teams, cheer and dance groups have now taken center stage as the main acts to some of the most exciting shows in Myrtle Beach, which has become a rallying point for international cheerleading and dancing competitions.

Along with the growth of the sport, Myrtle Beach has blossomed into a host of major dance and cheer events. In addition to offering the athletes and their friends and family members a great destination where they can combine their children's hobbies with a family vacation, the Grand Strand also provides excellent facilities for dance, cheer and other sports.

The Myrtle Beach Convention Center is the primary host to the major competitions that come to town. Lambo Arena seats more than 5,000 and offers a regulation floor with great sound and lights. The adjoining Myrtle Beach Sports Center is a brand new complex that offers more than 50,000 square feet of dance and cheer space, as well as basketball, volleyball and more.

Those two downtown venues will be the hub of activity for two upcoming international events: the March 18-20 Cheer Ltd. Nationals at Can-Am Challenge Cup, and the March 31-April 3 Battle at the Beach Dance World Championships. Featuring age groups from as young as 6 and up to 18, these two events attract hundreds of teams, thousands of competitors and even more family members and friends to spend their spring breaks on the Grand Strand.

The Can-Am Challenge Cup is celebrating its 28th year in Myrtle Beach, with cheerleading squads from all over the East Coast of the US and Canada taking part in the three-day showcase. As part of the city of Myrtle Beach's Can-Am Days, a festival that honors our neighbors from the North, the event features three packed arenas and three full days of action.

The Battle at the Beach World Championships has grown into the dance version of the Can-Am Challenge Cup. Thousands of dancers storm the stages at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center and Myrtle Beach Sports Center, performing in front of enthusiastic audiences. The “Groove Myrtle Beach” Summit is set for March 31, followed by the Battle of the Beach April 1-3.

Like these popular events, the Paradise Resort also has a proud tradition of welcoming dance and cheer squads to town. Offering excellent accommodations and amenities, as well as award-winning hospitality, Paradise has experience making these groups feel at home and going the extra mile to provide an enjoyable stay. Dance and cheer teams are treated like stars on and off the stage at Paradise.

For the dancers and cheerleaders and their supporting crew, the competition is only part of the fun and just one of the many reasons to come to Myrtle Beach during spring break. There are lots of great group activities so teams can spend their down time together.
