Going green takes on a whole new meaning in Myrtle Beach for St. Patrick's Day, which features a full week of St. Patrick’s Day festivities on the Grand Strand. Irish-themed events of all kinds are scheduled, ranging from parades and street parties to nightlife and shopping activities. So wear your green and get ready to go to these St. Patrick's Day venues:

  • Market Common: St. Patrick’s Day comes early at the Seventh Annual Irish Fest at Market Common on Saturday, March 12. An oyster roast, Irish food and beer as well as authentic Gaelic music are the main draws at this event, while green beer will flow and revelers dance at the Valor Park stage. A costume contest is also on the agenda with prizes awarded to the top finishers. The free festival runs from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

  • Murrells Inlet Marshwalk: Dress in your best green outfit and prepare for a fun day and night in the “Seafood Capital of South Carolina.” The annual Luck of the Marshwalk party begins March 17th at 6 p.m. on the wooden walkway that overlooks the inlet and leads to some of the best restaurants and bars on the Grand Strand. Each establishment will be holding their own parties indoors and on the outdoor patio decks, and the Marshwalk sponsors a costume contest, live music and other activities. Stroll from door to door and let the good times roll.

  • Myrtle Beach Boardwalk: The Oceanfront Merchants Association decided to scrap the street parties of the past in favor of a four-day promotion in the downtown district on the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk.  Visitors who wear green are eligible for “green-light special” discounts and prizes, and adjoining restaurants and bars offer green beer and Irish food specials.  The St. Patrick's Day Irish Sip-N-Shop runs all day and night from March 17-20.

  • North Myrtle Beach: Head north for the 28th Annual North Myrtle Beach St. Patrick’s Day Parade and Festival, which is held Saturday, March 12 in the downtown district. Floats, marching bands and convertibles cruise down Ocean Drive while an estimated 30,000 revelers line the streets. Following the 9 a.m. parade, the fun shifts to Main Street, where three stages will host live music and entertainment. Vendors will be offering Irish food, drinks and arts and crafts, and McLean Park holds a kids play area for the little ones to enjoy. The festivities run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and admission is free.

For visitors who prefer a more laid-back celebration, there are several local bars and restaurants that get into the Irish spirit on Thursday. On the North Strand, parties are held at Finn McCool's, Flynn’s Irish Tavern, Molly Darcy's, Pat & Mike's and Flynn's Irish Pub. Closer to Myrtle Beach, check out Handley's Pub, Bumstead's Pub, and K-Rae’s Pub. On the South Strand, the Island Bar & Grill, O’Keefe’s Irish Pub and Quigley's Pint & Plate also go green for the day, with green beer and corned beef and cabbage on the menu. Best of all, guests at Compass Cove Resort are in the middle of all the action for a fun St. Patrick’s Day in Myrtle Beach.
