Packing for a Myrtle Beach vacation during the summer is easy. Swimsuit? Check. Flip-flops? Check. T-shirts and tank tops? Check, check. The more lightweight the better during the summer weather, but a winter vacation can be a bit trickier.

With average highs in the mid-50s and lows in high-30s during the winter months of January and February in Myrtle Beach, you obviously have to pack a bit differently for the cooler temperatures. But that doesn’t mean stuffing your suitcases full of your winter wardrobe. You can get by with just a few simple items to save space and keep you warm. Here’s a list of must-pack items for your winter getaway to Myrtle Beach and your favorite seaside retreat – Caribbean Resort & Villas:

  • Coat/Jacket: In a perfect world with perfect weather, you won’t need it. It’s not uncommon for Myrtle Beach to have sunny days in the 60s and 70s during the dead of winter, but you have to be prepared for the worst and a coat or heavy jacket is the best way. Bringing one along allows you to pack fewer clothes for different weather conditions. You can pack lighter apparel and compensate with a nice coat or jacket. Even if you only wear it to sit outside on your balcony and watch the sun rise over the ocean, you will be glad you brought it.
  • Games: There is plenty to do and see in Myrtle Beach during the winter months, but some nights just you want to chill out in the room for a fun family gathering. Pack a deck of cards or a couple of board games that are appropriate for the whole family and plan a game night in your cozy condo at the Caribbean. Better yet, take advantage of your Sun & Fun Rewards package and check out free unlimited DVDs to watch in the comfort of your own room. When the weather outside is frightful, family game or movie night is a delightful alternative.
  • Gloves: Keeping your hands warm is critical to your overall comfort. Even if the temperatures aren’t too chilly, a simple gesture like holding a cold beverage in your hand or leaning on the railing of your private oceanfront balcony can send chills to your digits. Keep a warm pair of gloves in your coat pockets so you will have them handy when you need them.
  • Socks: The least popular articles of clothing at the beach during the summer months are almost a necessity in the winter. While no one wants to wear socks in the sand and surf with flip-flops, it’s important to keep your feet and toes dry and toasty when it’s cold. Even if you only wear them in your room, socks feel great on your feet on a chilly night when you snuggle up on the couch for movie night. Just don’t stand too close to the waves when you go for a walk on the beach. Little is less comfortable than wet shoes and socks.
  • Swimwear: That’s right, we said swimwear for a winter vacation at the Caribbean. That’s because you are staying at a resort that boasts one of the best indoor pool decks on the Grand Strand. Guests can slip into their swimsuits (a nice robe is perfect to wear to and from the ground floor patio) and go for a swim in the heated pool, float down the lazy river or soak in the giant hot tub. The little ones can splash and play in the indoor aquatic playground while the adults watch from the hot tub, a great way to warm up (and wear the kids out) before bedtime.

Of course, it’s not always what you wear but where you wear it. With the Caribbean Resort and Villas offering on-site dining facilities, indoor and outdoor oceanfront pool decks, and a fitness center and arcade on the property, guests can count on being comfortable without having to leave the premises. And if you pack light and right, you are in store for a wonderful winter vacation in Myrtle Beach.
