One of the highlights of the Myrtle Beach entertainment scene is the announcement of upcoming shows and concerts in the New Year. The lineup for the spring of 2016 promises to be as big as any in recent history, with a slew of new shows and top touring acts expected to play the stages and pack the houses of the many Myrtle Beach area theaters and concert halls.

From off-Broadway productions at The Carolina Opry and The Palace Theatre to major concert events at the House of Blues and the Alabama Theatre, the spring of 2016 has something for everyone. Best of all, the Grand Strand's mid-sized venues allow patrons to get closer to all the action as there isn't a bad seat in the house. Here's a look at this year's schedule:

  • Alabama Theatre: Back by popular demand, the Alabama Theatre's long running hit “One: The Show” returns with some new song and dance numbers. Featuring top talent performing to enthusiastic crowds, “One” draws rave reviews every year. The Alabama Theatre is also hosting several big-name touring acts like the Glenn Miller Orchestra (Feb. 20); Rick Alviti's tribute to Elvis (March 13); The Texas Tenors (March 19); The Platters, The Drifters and The Coasters (April 16); the Kingston Trio (April 23); and John Mueller's '50s Dance Party tribute to Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and the Big Bopper (April 30).

  • The Carolina Opry: Calvin Gilmore's theater brings a mix of new and old for first-time and repeat visitors. The namesake show “TCO” is back for another year with a few tweaks to keep it fresh, but the new show that is delighting audiences is “Thunder and Light” – a combination of the popular tap-dance act “All That!” with magic and laser lights to add to the excitement. The Carolina Opry also offers “Time Warp”, a tribute to pop music of the 1960s and ‘70s, and late-night laser rock shows to the music of Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin and The Beatles.

  • House of Blues: The Grand Strand used to get skipped over by a lot of nationally touring venues due to the lack of a nice mid-sized venue, but the House of Blues in North Myrtle Beach ended that problem. Now lots of big names stop on the Strand to play at the HOB's concert hall, and this spring is no exception. Among the upcoming concerts are Tesla (Feb. 20), Slayer (Feb. 26), Dan & Shay (March 2), Blackberry Smoke (March 12), Disturbed (March 29), Billy Currington (April 9), Tech N9NE (April 12), Ciara (April 21) and the Gregg Allman Band (May 6).

  • The Palace Theatre: Talk about a diverse lineup, the Palace has an incredible combination of music and drama this spring. The headline show “Hot Jersey Nights”, featuring the music of Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons and other artists known for popularizing the Philadelphia Sound. “Cirque Extreme” brings some action-packed, high-flying circus acts to the stage, with new daredevil performances added. The Palace also has a couple of big concerts scheduled, such as Beatlemania (Feb. 19), and Hotel California Tribute to the Eagles (March 4).

Guests at Ocean Reef Resort also have other entertainment options at local theaters, such as Legends In Concert’s tribute artists impersonating big-name acts. A pair of dinner theaters – Pirates Voyage and Medieval Times Dinner & Tournament, allow patrons to enjoy dinner and a show in a family-friendly atmosphere. And there are several smaller music venues in the neighborhood, such as Bourbon Street Bar & Grill, Pine Lakes Tavern and Hurricane Maggie’s, where Ocean Reef guests can hear some good local music and have a good time. After all, that’s what vacations in Myrtle Beach are all about.
