With the 40th Annual Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Women's Basketball Tournament coming to the area, March Madness takes on a whole new meaning in Myrtle Beach this year – and The Breakers Resort has the cure for hoops fans and beach lovers alike.
There will be a lot more than beach balls and golf balls bouncing on the Grand Strand this spring as the ACC Women's Basketball Tournament will be held in nearby Conway March 1-5. The Breakers, located on the oceanfront in the heart of Myrtle Beach's downtown district, is the place to stay no matter what game you play. ACC basketball fans can enjoy the beach, our indoor/outdoor pool deck and other amenities, and all the great attractions, shopping, entertainment, nightlife and dining Myrtle Beach has to offer while also taking in some of the nation's best women's basketball teams in action. Featuring seven unique buildings on the longest stretch of oceanfront property on The Strip, The Breakers offers the perfect place to experience both Myrtle Beach and the tournament.
The 2017 ACC Women’s Basketball Tournament will be held at the HTC Center on the Coastal Carolina University campus in Conway, about 15 miles inland from The Breakers. This year's tournament will feature all 15 ACC teams, including national powers Duke, Florida State, Miami, North Carolina, North Carolina State, Notre Dame, Syracuse and the home-state team of Clemson. The tourney tips off with three first-round games on Wednesday, March 1, and wraps up with the championship game on Sunday, March 5. Saturday’s semifinals will air on ESPNU at noon and 2:30 p.m., and Sunday’s championship game will air on ESPN2 at 1 p.m., with the winner earning an automatic bid to the NCAA Women’s Tournament.
This year, the ACC Women’s Basketball Tournament is celebrating its 40th year and will mark the milestone with several special events. The league and its member schools will select “40 ACC Moments” featuring the league's most memorable occasions in women’s basketball, which will be highlighted via video and social media throughout the season. During this year’s tournament, the ACC Network will also unveil the All-ACC Women’s Tournament Team, which will cover the last four decades. The 40th anniversary all-tournament team will include 10 players – a five-member first team and a five-member second team.
