When you are packing for your Myrtle Beach vacation, be sure to bring your sweet tooth. With so many delicious bakeries in town, especially in the neighborhood surrounding Long Bay Resort, vacation is a great time to treat yourself to some freshly baked treats and other sweets. Here are the best five places to find them:

Croissants Bistro & Bakery: Fine-dining foodies know this Myrtle Beach eatery for its award-winning cuisine, but Croissants doubles as one of the best bakeries in town. Located about a 5-minute drive from Long Bay at the corner of 38th Avenue North and Robert Grissom Parkway, this European-style bistro and bakery makes an assortment of breads, cakes, pies, pastries and cupcakes. If you are celebrating a special event, no one on the beach offers a wider selection of creative cakes than Croissants. Treat yourself to a tasty lunch or dinner, skip dessert and stop by the bakery for some sweet treats to go.

Fresh Market: A grocery store might not seem like your best option for bakeries, but the Fresh Market is not your regular grocery store. This small regional chain puts the focus on “fresh” in all of its store-made items, particularly the small but well-stocked bakery. Pick up everything from designer cakes and pies to creative cookie concoctions. The cheesecakes are light and tasty, and the oatmeal raisin cookies taste like Grandma’s. A wide variety of fresh-baked breads, including options gluten-free options, are made on-site daily. There’s also a large deli with house-made sandwiches, salads, soups and entrees you can take back to the room for lunch or dinner. Located only five blocks from Long Bay, those wishing to eat well and healthy may want to do their grocery shopping for the week here and pick up some baked goods while you are at it.

Kudzu Bakery & Market: Located only two blocks from Long Bay is a true taste of Southern-baked goodness. Like its namesake, the fast-growing plant that spreads the South, Kudzu Bakery & Market started as a one-room shop in nearby Georgetown, SC, has grown into a regional chain of four stores along the South Carolina coast. This uniquely sweet boutique offers great gift ideas for folks back home, and lots of treats for you to treat yourself. Using Carolina-grown products to make specialty cakes and pies, Kudzu features seasonal pies using fresh local fruits, nuts and berries. Try the Chocolate Raspberry Brownies, the Caramel Pecan Pie, or the melt-in-your-mouth Chocolate Mousse. Oh yeah, and maybe pick up something to share with your family and friends back at the resort.

Starbucks: There's no need to leave the resort to get your sweet-tooth fix with this popular national chain located on the premises. Recently re-opened after offseason renovations, this Starbucks is bigger and better, allowing more space for baked goods and other products to go with your favorite flavor of Starbucks' famous coffees, teas and smoothies. Fresh-baked cookies, pastries, cupcakes, muffins and other treats are available morning, noon and night for anytime you get the munchies.

Toffino's Italian Deli & Bakery: Northern transplants, snow birds and vacationers from above the Mason-Dixon Line say this Market Common store is the closest thing Myrtle Beach has to an authentic New York deli and bakery. In fact, some drive past three or four bakeries to get the bread that only Toffino's knows how to get just right. Or maybe it's the East River water? Whatever the secret recipe, Toffino's keeps people coming back for its handmade pizzas and piled-high deli sandwiches. The bakery counter offers fresh breads, cakes and treats, including its award-winning cannolis and tiramisu.
