There’s something special about dining out or having a few drinks while looking out over the ocean. The smell of the salt air, sound of the crashing waves, a feel of the ocean breeze heighten the senses for a cold beer or frozen drink, or a nice surf-and-turf spread. North Myrtle Beach has an excellent selection of both restaurants and bars on the oceanfront.  Here are five hot spots where you can feed your body and unwind your mind:

  • 3500 Ocean Grill: Located at the Prince Resort, this seafood restaurant gives guests an excellent view of the large body of water where there dinner was swimming yesterday. Serving fresh local seafood in a fine dining environment, 3500 Ocean Grill is a great place for a romantic date or a nice family dinner out on the town. Enjoy a fresh catch of the day special or make it a surf and turf combo by adding a signature steak or chop. Don’t forget to order from the wine and dessert menus too.
  • Filet’s: OK, so this place is on the Intracoastal Waterway, not the beach. But it also happens to have one of the best views on the entire Grand Strand.  Overlooking a marina filled with fishing boats and yachts, Filet’s is a great place to party on the water without buying a boat. The large outdoor deck is filled with folks who arrive by land and sea and the atmosphere is laid-back casual. The menu might seem like a curveball, specializing in great cuts of beef instead of fish, but there are lots of seafood options as well. Better yet, go the surf and turf route, and wash it down with a cold beer or a frozen drink. Live music on the outdoor deck creates a nice evening crowd.
  • Harold’s on the Ocean: Everyone knows about Fat Harold’s Beach Club, the famous home of shag dancing and a shrine to late owner Harold “The King of the Shag” Bessent. But located a few blocks north in Cherry Grove Beach is a more-laid back version of the North Myrtle Beach landmark.  HOTO is a classic South Carolina beach bar, plain and simple. But if a scenic view and a cold brew are your idea of a good time, here’s your new hangout. Patrons are known to do the South Carolina state dance to the classic beach music that plays on the open-air deck. A limited food menu is available, including the world famous fried bologna sandwich and seafood, and occasional live music is featured throughout the summer months.
  • Molly Darcy’s: This Irish pub doubles as a beach bar and has a huge oceanfront deck to accommodate large crowds looking for an ice cold beer under the hot summer sun. The interior is more like a traditional Irish pub, with imported beers, dart boards and billiard tables. The food menu reflects this place’s dual personality of Irish pub and beach bar, featuring everything from Shepherd’s Pie to fish tacos. This hot spot is popular among golfers, and there is a large late-night crowd consisting of locals and tourists.
  • Ocean Annie’s: This Arcadian Shores beach bar is the place to be during the hot summer days. Situated on a spacious pool deck overlooking the ocean behind Sand Beach Club, Ocean Annie’s features live music all day and the early evening. Patrons dance by the pool and in the pool, as waitresses deliver frozen drinks to tables from the poolside bar. The indoor section is a great place to take a break from the heat and enjoy a nice lunch or dinner.
