With a vacation in Myrtle Beach, there are a million possibilities when it comes to things to do — from hitting the beach every day to taking a stroll around all of the great Grand Strand shopping centers. Another great thing about Myrtle Beach is that there are multiple small towns nearby that make for great day trips. One of the best is Conway, which offers a variety of things to do about 15 miles inland from Myrtle Beach. One of the first towns in South Carolina, Conway’s history dates all the way back to the Revolutionary War days, when it served as the site of several small battles and played host to soldiers’ campsites. Located alongside the Waccamaw River, Conway later developed into a local hub for the transport of passengers and goods between cities along the East Coast. Fast-forward to today, and you will still find great historic plantations, buildings and battlefields in the Conway area, along with great new restaurants and unique shopping destinations. As you walk throughout the town and along the Waccamaw River, you will find plenty of ways to spend your day, whether it’s taking a tour, playing golf or shopping around at the many small boutiques and stores that line the city’s streets. Check out a few of the shops and find some treasures that you may not be able to find anywhere else, or swing your clubs around for a while at one of the great local golf courses. If you are interested in more of the history of this great river town, there are many local plantations and museums where you can learn all about the history of Conway and how this small town became what it is today. If you have a high-schooler and it’s about time to start looking at colleges, take a trip to Coastal Carolina University while visiting Conway for the day. Coastal Carolina is one of South Carolina’s best public universities, and there are so many reasons why. Its beautiful 663-acre campus, located right in the middle of the quiet town of Conway and within a short distance of the Atlantic coast, offers outstanding education programs, great sports teams, and a wealth of extracurricular activities and clubs. Check out the school’s website for a full list of tours and events that are going on to get the full Coastal Carolina experience!
