5 Rockin’ Reasons to Make Myrtle Beach Your New Year’s Destination

For fans of coastal scenery, ocean air and mild year-end temperatures, the Grand Strand is already a clear winner when it comes to top places to ring in the new year. But when you consider the wide selection of festive activities on tap for ushering in 2023 in the Myrtle Beach area, the destination takes on even more year-end appeal — and you’ll really want to start the countdown to your New Year’s Eve visit.

Check out this list of five festive highlights — with options ranging from early evening, family-friendly gatherings to late-night, adults-only affairs — from among the New Year’s celebrations being held on the Grand Strand in 2022-2023:

A Southern Times Square

Held each year at Myrtle Beach’s “Uptown Downtown” shopping/dining/entertainment complex The Market Common, this New Year’s Eve event is returning in 2022-2023 for its 10th annual edition. Attractions on tap include live music, a beer and wine garden, and a big screen showing sporting events as well as the festivities in New York City’s Times Square. To round out the fun, the celebration will also feature food vendors, a photo booth, a laser show and a ball drop at midnight.

A New Year’s Eve Celebration: Strauss on the Strand Gala

Myrtle Beach’s own Long Bay Symphony will ring (and string) in the new year by performing a collection of familiar waltzes, polkas and other dances by the legendary Johann Strauss family. Its December 31 Strauss on the Strand concert at Kingston Plantation will be accompanied by drinks, dinner and dancing.

Nights of a Thousand Candles

Throughout the holiday season, the sculpture gardens/botanical gardens at Murrells Inlet’s Brookgreen Gardens take on the warm glow of 2,700 hand-lit candles and millions of sparkling lights during the attraction’s annual Nights of a Thousand Candles event. And the tradition, named the “Best Christmas Lights in South Carolina” by Travel+Leisure Magazine, serves as a great way to kick off your New Year’s Eve festivities from 4-9 p.m.

Guests are invited to walk the awe-inspiring paths with a warm cup of cider as they listen to music played by different guest musical acts each night, and the December 31 lineup includes Raglan Road and Vocal Edition.

Fireworks at Barefoot Landing

At North Myrtle Beach shopping/dining/entertainment destination Barefoot Landing, fireworks will fill the New Year’s Eve sky over Barefoot Lake during a celebration that starts at 7 p.m.

Fireworks Extravaganza at Broadway at the Beach

Not to be outdone, Myrtle Beach shopping/dining/entertainment complex Broadway at the Beach will host its own New Year’s Eve fireworks show over Lake Broadway starting at 8 p.m. on December 31.

Of course, this list is far from being a comprehensive one — a long list of restaurants, bars, hotels, and other hospitality-focused businesses up and down the Grand Strand are also hosting their own New Year’s Eve events. So, whatever you’re looking for, you shouldn’t have much trouble at all finding some New Year’s fun in Myrtle Beach!
