Pop. Boom. Sizzle.
There are few things more uniquely American than a good fireworks show, and it’s a tradition that — lucky for us — is enjoyed on July 4th and beyond all over the Grand Strand and quite close to Litchfield Beach & Golf. Here are some best bets for fireworks events on Independence Day, which fortuitously falls on a free-flowing Saturday this year, and all summer long.
July 4th Weekend Fireworks:
Murrells Inlet MarshWalk: Take it from us, this is the event to beat. Following the awesomely fun boat parade earlier in the day, the restaurants along the MarshWalk sponsor a fabulous fireworks show over the inlet starting at 10 p.m. Grab a cocktail, or better yet, a seat outdoors at any number of great joints, listen to some tunes, and watch the colors light up the sky. It’s a popular event so be sure to get there with plenty of time to secure a place to watch.
Georgetown: Just a short drive south from Litchfield lies the quaint seaside hamlet of Georgetown, where the fish is fresh, the views gorgeous, and the fireworks a South Strand destination. The show begin at 9:45 in East Bay Park on Greenwich Drive right there in town.
Myrtle Beach: Of course, Myrtle Beach offers multiple options for this one. Head to Barefoot Landing in North Myrtle Beach at 10:15 p.m., for their display; the 2nd Avenue Pier at 10 p.m. in downtown Myrtle Beach offers explosive delights and ocean views with their Hot Summer Nights (http://myrtlebeachdowntown.com/festivals-details?id=16 ) series; Broadway at the Beach, a huge attraction in town, will host fireworks at 10 p.m.; Cherry Grove Pier in North Myrtle Beach offers fireworks a little earlier than other spots, at 9 p.m. to be precise; Surfside Beach will host its annual July 4th celebration that combines a fireworks show with live entertainment, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.; the Myrtle Beach Pelicans dazzle fans with regular fireworks shows, but this weekend there will just be more of them: both Thursday, July 2 and Friday, July 3 after the games — wins, we presume.
Summer long Fireworks:
Barefoot Landing: How do you beat a case of the Mondays? Well, incendiary devices, of course. Barefoot Landing offers fireworks every summer Monday at either 10 or 10:15 p.m. Check the site for more details.
Myrtle Beach Pelicans: Baseball AND Fireworks? ‘Merica, man! The Pelicans host many evenings of fireworks throughout the summer, most landing on Thursdays. Be sure to check the schedule and arrange for your family outing on one of those nights. ProTip: this is great incentive to get squirmy kiddos to keep it together until the end of the game. That and ice cream.
Broadway at the Beach: Unlike most spots, BATB doesn’t let cooler weather deter them. Every summer Tuesday and Friday, plus select autumn Saturdays, they’ll illuminate the Grand Strand sky with impressive shows. Summer shows at 10 p.m.; late fall shows at 8 p.m.
2nd Avenue Pier: Summer Wednesdays are extra bright with this recurring event. It’s a fun night out for South Stranders — easy to get to, with lots of room to roam around. And because it’s a regular event, you won’t be dealing with the massive crowds that, say, a one-off event would draw.
Unfortunately, the tradition of weekly fireworks in Murrells Inlet won’t be happening this year; it may be back in 2016, however, if it is deemed environmentally sound to the inlet’s fragile ecosystem.
