Long Bay offers on-site dining at Martin's Restaurant, Starbucks and the Oceanview Cafe, but there are also some excellent dining options only a couple of blocks away. The closest and perhaps most popular restaurant/bar combination is Liberty Tap Room on Kings Highway. This sister eatery to Liberty Brewery & Grill at Broadway at the Beach offers all the same outstanding food, drinks and atmosphere without the big crowds, pricy cab rides or daunting task of driving and parking.

While Liberty Tap Room specializes in locally brewed beers and delicious steaks, this is a great place for families and groups with diverse taste buds. Liberty Tap Room's extensive menu includes surf and turf combos, BBQ ribs, flatbread pizzas and meal-sized salads. Their famous appetizers include house-made pretzels, towering platters of cheese fries, chicken fingers and more, including a special happy hour menu of half-priced starters every weekday from 4 to 7 p.m.

Happy hour also gives Long Bay guests a chance to unwind after a long day at the beach with some draft beers and other adult beverages. Liberty's house-made beers include Liberty Lager, Nut Brown Ale, Porter, IPA, Unfiltered Wheat and a long list of seasonal favorites — all discounted to $3 per pint during happy hour. Liberty Tap Room also offers deals on bottled beers, house wines and mixed drinks. The outdoor patio is the perfect place to soak up some suds and atmosphere.

Liberty Tap Room isn't the only family/casual restaurant in the eight-block stretch of Kings Highway that surrounds Long Bay Resort. There are also several fine-dining options in the same Northwood neighborhood where guests can wine and dine within walking distance, as well as come-as-you-are beach casual joints where you can fill up fast before heading back to the beach. In addition to nearby national chains like Carrabba's, Outback and Bonefish Grill, here are a few of our favorite spots:

* Flamingo Grill: Located three blocks away on the corner of 71st Avenue North and Kings Highway, this chic seafood cafe is ideal for a nice evening out or a special date night. Fresh local seafood is paired with tasty prime rib for the ultimate surf-and-turf feast, and the house special lobster bites can serve as an appetizer or a meal. An extensive wine list and delicious dessert lineup make it worth the short walk.

* Fire & Smoke: Myrtle Beach's only gastropub is located about half a mile away on 79th Avenue North. Serving a unique menu designed around smoked meats and cheeses, Fire & Smoke is a popular pick for folks with adventurous palates. Try the fried pork belly or the fresh oysters smothered in fresh salsa. The bar area is also a trendy hangout spot.

* Boom Boom Wine Room: Tucked away in Northwood Plaza is a hidden gem for folks who enjoy fancy meals and fine wines. Previously serving as a wine bar with a limited food menu, Boom Boom's food was so popular that it was converted into a fine dining restaurant full-time. The nightly dinner specials and regular wine-tasting sessions are big hits.

* River City Cafe: Fine dining is great, but sometimes you just want a big, thick, juicy cheeseburger and fries, especially after a long day at the beach. Located next door to Long Bay, this burger shack specializes in scrumptious burgers, hand-cut fries, cold beers and free peanuts. You can even throw the shells on the floor.
