Most country music fans know that we love our country music here in Myrtle Beach. As a matter of fact, The Bowery, a local watering hole on Ocean Boulevard, is at least partly responsible for the success of the group Alabama. The award-winning group – a longtime house band at The Bowery – never forgot its Grand Strand roots and makes trips back often.

The iconic group even has its own namesake area theater, which is one of the best on the beach. The Alabama Theatre is home to a locals’ favorite Christmas show as well as world-class concerts throughout the year. This year, the theater will be hosting another well-known and much-beloved country music group twice: The Oak Ridge Boys. And Paradise Resort is here to help with your reservations for either date.

The Oak Ridge Boys will appear at the Alabama Theatre, located in North Myrtle Beach’s Barefoot Landing shopping and entertainment complex, on Saturday, April 1, and Saturday, October 21. Your biggest decision now is whether you want to make a spring or a fall trip to the beach. Both dates are great times to visit the Grand Strand. Our beaches are less crowded after school starts in the fall and before the Memorial Day weekend in May, but we still have gorgeous weather and all the great attractions our area has to offer year-round.

If you have never been to the Alabama Theatre, you’re in for a real treat, along with the Oak Ridge Boys themselves. The grand and gorgeous theater opened in 1993 and has been featured on major television shows throughout the years. It was once even the answer to a question on the game show “Jeopardy.” If you’ve been to Barefoot Landing, you have no doubt seen it sitting atop the hill just north of the House of Blues and Alligator Adventure.

The Alabama Theatre boasts a Guest Artist Series that has featured such greats as Alabama, Vince Gill, Josh Turner, Engelbert Humperdinck, the Temptations and the Four Tops. This year, that list will include the one and only Oak Ridge Boys. You will be transported back to the 1980s, when the group became popular for singing such favorites as “Elvira,” “American Made” and “Bobby Sue.” Known for their talent and showmanship, the Oak Ridge Boys are among the longest-running groups in the country music business, and lucky concert attendees will get a seat at the beach to see why in person.

With its location in Barefoot Landing, the Alabama Theatre lends itself well to making your concert day one that includes shopping in some of the best boutiques along the beach, dining at award-winning restaurants, and even visiting a winery. Looking to have lunch or dinner before the show? Barefoot Landing offers options from gorgeous waterfront formal dining to a relaxed atmosphere overlooking the complex’s boardwalk. Some locals’ favorites include Greg Norman’s Australian Grille, Castano’s Italian Steakhouse, Umberto’s Italian restaurant and seafood restaurant the Flying Fish Public Market & Grill. Some may require reservations, especially on a show night, so we at Paradise Resort always suggest calling ahead.

You can take in a few sights at Barefoot Landing before the show, as well. The surroundings themselves are simply gorgeous. Unspoiled natural areas surround the complex, which is situated around a lake crossed by three different wooden bridges connecting the facilities. No visit to Barefoot Landing is complete without a walk along the waterway. The Barefoot Landing Marina is also worthy of a slow stroll, as you will likely see wildlife, along with some stunning boats both docked and making their way through the waters. You will also want to pop by T.I.G.E.R.S/Preservation Station, where you can get up close and personal with chimpanzees, wolves, adorable tiger cubs and more. There are also fully grown tigers that you are able to watch play, bathe or sleep the day away.

While visiting the Grand Strand with us at the oceanfront Paradise Resort, feel free to let us help you with reservations or suggestions for dining and sightseeing prior to your big show with the Oak Ridge Boys. If you need ticket information or would like to quickly view seating and purchase your seats for the show, visit the Alabama Theatre’s website. We will have your room ready for you after the show!
