- Myrtle Beach’s first residents were the Waccamaw Tribe. They called it Chicora, which means “the land” in English.

- The Myrtle Beach Boardwalk extends 1.2 miles along the oceanfront. It gives easy access to attractions, entertainment, restaurants, and shopping on The Grand Strand.

Hiking at Myrtle Beach State Park
There are two easy trails (Sculptured Oak and Yaupon), which both access the beach by boardwalks. You can see forests of hollies, oaks, poplars, magnolias, and wax myrtles, after which Myrtle Beach is named.

There’s an incredible African penguin habitat at Ripley’s Aquarium. We’re talking floor-to-ceiling viewing glass more than 50 feet long – and a 360-degree crawl tunnel for a really unique view. The biggest expansion ever at Ripley’s is part of a conservation effort.
Experience Brookgreen Gardens
This sculpture garden is also a wildlife preserve just south of Murrells Inlet. There are 400 statues in the garden and fountains. It’s a perfect escape for nature lovers. It’s a serene place to explore, or just sit and take in the beauty of nature.
